Mulching

Red Key Property Services Offers a Mulching Service.

Gardeners and farmers know that if you care for the soil, the soil will care for the plant. One of the best ways to improve soil quality and keep your plants in tip top condition is by mulching.

What is mulch? Mulch is a layer of organic or inorganic material that is spread over the surface of the soil and around your plants as a protective covering. Organic mulch comes from plant or animal sources and includes compost, bark chips, old shredded newspaper and leaves. The best to use are Organic mulches as over time they break down and help to enrich the soil.

Inorganic mulches include pebbles, stone and gravel. These don’t break down, but they keep moisture in and suppress weed growth. Synthetic mulches such as polythene or semi-permeable membrane (SPM) are often used for suppressing weed growth and reducing maintenance in larger areas of the garden that are not being used.

Why use mulch?

  • Mulching conserves water by lowering the temperature of the soil, so less water is lost to evaporation
  • Mulching enriches the soil as it breaks down and encourages biodiversity by harbouring micro-organisms and earthworms
  • Mulching suppresses weed growth
  • Mulching protects plant roots during the cold winter months
  • Mulching adds to the visual appeal of an area in your garden

How can Red Key Property Services help you?

We offer a mulching service to help you the client solve your gardening problems. Initially we will make a visit to your garden to determine your requirements before sending you a proposal about your project and which mulching solution would work best for you.

Our preference is for using organic mulch, mostly bark chips, which we source locally. If your garden is established, we offer a service whereby we can redesign, prune, plant and maintain your plants. On larger sites we can use synthetic mulches to reduce maintenance until you are ready to develop your garden.
